To educate Americans on how saving money can also save the planet,
Whole Foods Market and Bosch Home Appliances, a 2009 Energy Star
Partner of the Year, have joined forces with a 30-day
call-to-action campaign to remind Americans that environmental
responsibility can go hand in hand with economic recovery.
The program, called “Make a Green Change,” is part of the U.S.
Department of Energy's national Energy Star “Make a Cool Change”effort. During the month of April, Whole Foods will turn its stores
into Earth Month Action Centers. Customers and members of the
community are encouraged to take home a free Make a Green Change:
30 Ways in 30 Days calendar, which was created to encourage one
lifestyle change per day during Earth Month that can save money and
better protect the environment for the whole year and beyond.
"Supporting smart environmental practices has been part of our core
values since we opened our doors nearly 30 years ago,” said Michael
Besancon, Whole Foods senior global VP of purchasing, distribution
and marketing. “We feel most of our customers share that passion,
too. This simple, personal-steps approach to a complex, global
issue will further educate and empower people who want to set
positive change into motion. Even seemingly slight decisions can
have a big impact on the environment."
The calendar, which Whole Foods advises shoppers to hang on the
refrigerator -- as it’s the centerpiece of the kitchen -- reminds
customers to visit Whole Foods’ Web site to learn all about
refrigerator recycling. It also features an Energy Star savings
calculator to show how much their fridge costs to run compared with
an Energy Star model. Consumers can also enter to win a variety of
earth-friendly prizes.
Whole Foods Market's “Recycle Your Old Refrigerator” sweepstakes
provides a chance to win one of 11 Bosch Evolution refrigerators
stuffed with natural and organic foods hand-picked by the grocer.
There’s also an Earth Month trivia game in which families can learn
how to make responsible, healthy changes to their daily routines
and test their green knowledge.
According to Whole Foods, Bosch was a natural fit for the grand
prize because it’s the only U.S. manufacturer to feature the Energy
Star qualification on all its product models in every major
appliance category the program rates.
Austin, Texas-based Whole Foods operates more than 275 stores in
the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

The new year always brings new experiences, and 2009 has already brought several that we'd like to share with you.
In December, we participated in our first Menu for Hope raffle, which raised $62,206.86 in support of the UN World Food Program. Many thanks to everyone who participated, and congratulations to Ms. Deborah Bower, the lucky winner of our Family Favorites menu! A full round up of prize winners is now available at Chez Pim.
Santa delivered some digital goodies for us, so look for more photos and videos coming soon! We'd love to hear from you on what you'd like to see, so feel free to comment with suggestions and ideas for new features.
One of our newest customers (and latest reviewers) was revealed to be mail order food maven Laura McManus, President of Mackenzie Limited. We're delighted to help Laura achieve her resolution for healthier lunches in 2009. We are also pleased that we can provide her additional time to spend at her core business. As a long standing leader in at-home gourmet food provisions we wish her many happy tastings!

Menu for Hope is an annual fundraising campaign hosted by
Pim Techamuanvivit and a revolving
group of food bloggers around the world. Five years ago, the devastating tsunami in Southeast Asia inspired her to find a way to help, and the very first Menu for Hope was born. The campaign has since become a yearly affair, raising funds to support worthy causes worldwide. In 2007, Menu for Hope raised nearly $100K to help the UN World Food Program feed the hungry. Each December,
food bloggers from all over the world join the campaign by offering a delectable array of food-related prizes for the Menu for Hope raffle.
Anyone – and that means you too - can buy raffle tickets to bid on these prizes. For every $10 donated, you earn one virtual raffle ticket to bid on a prize of your choice. At the end of the two-week campaign, the raffle tickets are drawn and the results announced on Chez Pim.
This year, we're joining in the fun!
One lucky winner will receive our Family Favorites menu, sure to please all but the most finicky of eaters. Each week our chefs create a delicious, four entree menu complete with side dishes to compliment the main course. From tender and moist grilled chicken to savory seafood pastas, we're sure to be a family favorite any night of the week! Each weekly menu is delivered to your door and because it is always fresh and never frozen, it is ready to eat in minutes. Prize package includes two servings of each meal (eight dinners in all).
How to donate and enter to win:
- Go to First Giving , the site that manages this campaign, and make your donation. For every $10 donation, you are eligible to win one raffle prize.
- If you’re interested in winning the delicious meal package we're giving away, when you are prompted to enter a “personal message” enter code — the codes associated with this prize. If you are eligible for more than one prize — for example, if you gave $50 — you could apply two tickets to one prize and three to another. Simply write 2xUE28 + 3xUE28, or whichever combination of prizes you’re hoping for.
- Not the prize you wanted? Check out the master list of prizes to see what else is being offered.
- Finally, check the box that follows which says that you are “happy for the page owner to see my email address” — very necessary so we can contact you if you won!
- The winners of each raffle prize will be announced in early January. The last day to give is December 24.
